    New College Requirements
    Class of 2008 and subsequent classes
  • All four-year public universities - Completion of Regents' of High School Core Curriculum
  • In order to meet the new admission requirements to be eligible to attend a four-year Louisiana university, this year’s graduating seniors must have a fourth upper level math or science course. If you are unsure if your senior student has met this requirement, please contact the Mandeville High School guidance department.

Why Do I Need To Take The High School Core Curriculum?
The Core Curriculum is the most important component of the Regents' admissions framework. Research shows that students who take college prep courses double their odds of success in college.

What is the Regents' (currently TOPS) Core?

1 Evironmental Science, Physical Science, Biology II, Chemistry II, or Physics

1 Civics and Free Enterprise (one unit combined)
1 Fine Arts Survey (or substitute two units of preformance courses in music, dance and/or theater; or two units of visual art; or substitute two units of studio art; or substitute one unit of an elective among the other subjects listed in this core curriculum)
2 Foreign Language (two units in the same language)
1/2 Computer Science or Business Computer Applications (or substitute an elective course related to computers approved by the state including either one unit of Computer/Technology Literacy or Web Mastering; or 1/2 unit as an elective from the other subjects listed in this core curriculum).
1 Higher level Math or Science from among the following: Geometry, Advanced Mathematics I, Advanced Mathematics II, Calculus, Physics, Biology II, or Chemistry II

High school GPA of 2.0 or greater

OR
ACT composite score of 20 or greater

OR
High school graduation rank top 50%** of class AND require no more than one redmedial course


Louisiana Tech University
University of Louisiana-Lafayette
University of New Orleans

Cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or ACT composite of 23

OR
top 25% of grauating class AND require no more than one remedial course.


Students with less than 2.0 GPA will not by admitted.


LSU and A&M College (Baton Rouge)

3.0 GPA in 18 core units and 22 ACT or 1030 SAT or top 15% of graduating class.

Admissions Exceptions - 15% of entering class for each institution (in accordance with 1994 Desegregation Settlement Agreement stipulations)
