WHAT IS STEP?

Step dance has African roots and is an African American tradition popularized by fraternities and sororities at traditional Black institutions of higher learning. Step shows incorporate cheerleading, military, and drill-team moves, especially the call-and-response element inherent in those forms. Percussion and rhythm as well as personal expression play important roles in step choreography. These aspects are not only important to the energy of stepping for entertainment use but also for bonding and pride within our organization.

WHO ARE THE SKIPPETTES?

The MHS Skippettes Step Club is an organization aiming towards success in our daily lives as well as in performing, as individuals and as a team. We assume the responsibility as Skippettes to remain respectful to others and to ourselves in everything that we do. We understand that we are held to a higher standard as role models in the community and our school. We are united in striving for common goals, achieving academic excellence, promoting school spirit, and leading by example.

WHERE CAN I SEE THE SKIPPETTES?

The Skippettes plan to perform at school functions including MHS men's and women's basketball games and school-wide events such as the MHS talent show.

WHO CAN BE A SKIPPETTE?

Membership in Skippettes is open to all MHS students. No previous experience is required but hard work is expected! We practice on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 2:50 - 3:50. Members are expected to practice additionally outside of these hours in order to master routines.

FEES

Skippettes membership fee is currently $10 and uniform fees are $40. Club fundraising efforts will provide financial assistance.
